about

A song with incredible imagery about my songwriting process. It sounds, on the surface, like a self-reflective search for meaning while utilizing writing gimmicks such as double-entendre and alliteration.

Glass House
By Nathan Hale
5/7/12

Verse 1
I borrow a piece of paper ‘cause my notebook is full
All the pages got filled up while I was spilling out my soul
I’m better in real time when I let it move through me
I don’t know what to do, so I just keep that pen moving
Words turn into sound
As I’m writing them down
I re-read what I think
And I meet the real me
Create confidence
Witness originality
Accept the consequence
And that’s the reality

Chorus
I'll throw the stone
I'm not perfect I know
But I've got to get out
Of this God damn glass house
The panes are like mirrors
And my pain is so clear
Can't look at myself
So I cry out for help
Arms out, spinning around
Let it all crash down
The shards are like a snowflake
In a slow motion earthquake
As the glass cuts my skin
So I let it sink in
In this shiny debris
I am finally free
Of me

Verse 2
I can't do this alone
The only meaning is my own
Like a secret that I've kept
Of a brilliant concept
Just a thought that I had
But I'm scared that it's bad
What do you think I mean
Words describing a scene
And your picture is different
Than the one in my mind
Yours was there in an instant
Mine developed in time
And its not up to me
How the artwork will read
But I try to emote
With the words that I wrote
Does it make you feel
Like my thoughts are real
Does it mean anything
If the viewer's just me

Chorus
I'll throw the stone
I'm not perfect I know
But I've got to get out
Of this God damn glass house
The panes are like mirrors
And my pain is so clear
Can't look at myself
So I cry out for help
Arms out, spinning around
Let it all crash down
The shards are like a snowflake
In a slow motion earthquake
The glass cuts my skin
So I let it sink in
In this shiny debris
I am finally free
Of me
